One of the points the author made was that there is a lack of respect for teachers who work in urban schools. Due to this lack of respect, we are predisposed to provide simplistic answers for the challenges that are faced in these schools. The simplistic answers usually cast blame, and in fact, are not really answers. This contributes to the demoralization of the school environment and the lack of efficacy among teachers.
This book has me thinking a little deeper about how my words and actions contribute to the demoralization of urban schools. I will definitely pick this book up and reread it-- it is a great reminder that I am an influencer and I need to be certain that I am building the spirit and morale of my colleagues in the urban schools.
