Sindelar, Adams and Leko (2014) stated that “job-embedded professional development” gives teachers the opportunity to implement their new learning and develop skills. Preservice teachers need that same opportunity. Field experiences give them the chance to connect what they are learning through coursework to their experience in the classroom. To not have field experiences is doing a huge disservice to the teacher and to the teaching profession. We don't need teachers practicing what they learned for the first time during their first year of teacher.
In case studies done by Darling-Hammond (2000, 2006) it was suggested that teacher education programs that have at least 30 hours of field experience with a tight connection to coursework, are strong programs. The teaching profession needs consistency in the teacher education programs. All teachers need to be held to the same standards in order to ensure that students are getting the best possible education.
